She was the first born daughter and she has six other siblings.

Bernadette grew up in extreme poverty.

The blessed Virgin Mary appeared to her in Lourdes, France 17 times.

She has had many sicknesses and diseases through out her life. Including digestive problems, painful attacks of asthma, tuberculosis of the lungs, a tumor on her right knee and being a surviving victim of the cholera epidemic of 1855.

Her illnesses prevented her from praising God.

One time when Mary appeared to Bernadette Mary told her to pray for sinners, go to chapel, and build a church in her honor.

The most remembered story of St. Bernadette was when Mary told her to dig a hole in the ground where she stood. Bernadette did as she was told and water began to spout out and it got bigger every day. People began to come and drink the water and after drinking it many were healed.

She later became a nun.

She died in an infirmary around 3:15 in the afternoon.

She was buried in a small chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph on April 30th, 1879.
