Ignatius underwent multiple surgeries to repair his leg, though none yielded results. During his recovery, he rested in a hospital run by a religious order where he learned about the various teachings of Jesus and had a religious conversion. Originally he was not fond of the fact that he had nothing to read aside from philosophical works but eventually grew to enjoy them. St. Ignatius also confessed for the violent crimes he committed before joining the military in which he used his social status to avoid the repercussions. He also became less self-centered, as he became more virtuous as he learned of the church’s teachings.
St. Ignatius is also responsible for founding the Jesuit order with Peter Faber and Francis Xavier in 1539. This order is primarily focused upon education and still exists to this day.
