EARLY LIFE.

  • St. Julie Billiart was born in 1751
  • Her favorite game to play as a child was "school"
  • When she turned 16 she began to teach "for real"
  • She recieved first commuinion at a very young age secretly.
  • She developed a great love for Jesus.

THE ATTACK.

  • There was a murder attempt on her father.
  • It shocked her so badly she became paralyzed.
  • She was paralyzed for twenty-two years.
  • She offered all her pains and sufferings to God.

JULIES VISON AND WORK.

  • During the time she was ill, she received a vision.
  • She saw religious women and a voice spoke to her.
  • The voice told her these will be the daughters to start the institution.
  • She and rich young woman founded the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur

JULIE WAS CURED.

  • The two women and a few companions began living a religious life in 1803.
  • In 1804 Julie was cured of her illness (miraculously)
  • She walked for the first time in twenty-two years.
  • Julie and took her partners took thier final vows
  • She was elected as Mother General of the young Congregation.

END OF JULIE'S LIFE.

  • In 1815, she helped the wounded soldiers in the Battle of Waterloo
  • For the last three years of her life she suffered again.
  • She died peacefully on April 8, 1816.

OTHER FACTS.

  • She was beautified in 1969.
  • Her feast day is April 8, same day as her death.
