ST. MARCELLIN CHAMPAGNAT

Born May 20, 1789

Ordained a priest July 2nd, 1816

On October 28, 1816, three months after his ordination, Marcellin was called to the Montagne home where 16 year old Jean-Baptiste was dying

On January 2nd, 1817 Marcellin Champagnat founded the Marist Brothers.

In February 1823, Marcellin turns to Mary for help by reciting the Memorare while stranded in the snow and finds shelter in a barn

On August 13th, 1825 Marcellin decides to build a chapel on land purchased from the hermitage.

On July 6th, 1840, Champagnat died from cancer at the age of 51.

On May 29th, 1955 Marcellin Champagnat was Beatified by Pope Pius XII

On April 18th, 1999 Marcellin Champagnat is canonized by Pope John Paul II
