Training 2014-15

Important Dates

  • Test session created-1/19
  • Preview window: 1/23-2/6
  • Assessment: 2/9 - 27
  • Data in TestNav: 2/27

Test Desgin

  • 6 clusters with 24 scripted questions per test
  • TA booklet & student booklet per subject
  • TA booklet contains scripted questions & guidelines for testing
  • student booklet has stimulus images & text of test items & answer options

TA Responsibilites

  • Maintain security of test materials
  • prepare test materials
  • implement testing as stated in the manual
  • report any suspected violation of test security
  • transcribe student responses into TestNav

Security & Confidentiality

  • Read pages T-25 to T-30 of TA manual
  • security is accounting for all materials before, during & after testing
  • since viewing secure content, discussing content is prohibited at any time
  • No one may discuss student responses or scoring information
  • All materials must remain in secure locked storage when not in use

Security & Confidentiality

  • Any person who violates security is subject to
  • restrictions on Texas educator certificate
  • suspension of certificate for a set term
  • revocation or cancellation of certificate

Serious Irregularities

  • tampering with student responses
  • falsifying student scoring info
  • discussing test content, student responses, or performance
  • secure materials were left unattended or left open and visible
  • TA left room unattended when students or materials were present

Irregularities con't

  • Online tests were left open and visible during a break
  • A student was allowed to remove secure materials from testing room

Preview Test Materials

  • Since secure materials must be checked out & in each day
  • Accommodations should be prepared during preview period
  • Photocopies placed in each students' envelope per subject
  • Preview guidelines for TA instructions & scoring sections of TA manual
  • Practice reading script & following presentation instructions

Preview Test Materials con't

  • Review scoring instructions for actual questions
  • Plan teacher assistance for specific questions
  • Preview student booklet to plan & prepare accommodations
  • secure items must be locked up when not in use

STAAR ALT2 components

  • stimulus images from student booklet can be copied
  • placed closer to student or presented on a vertical plane
  • Accommodations must maintain integrity of assessment &
  • avoid leading to or providing student a direct answer
  • be used routinely in instruction & reflect students' learning style

Accommodations Information

  • TA must present accommodations so correct answer is not emphasized
  • Positioning & behavioral supports can be provided for student focus
  • OK to add language that encourages student to stay on task
  • Do not add language about content of the question

Administering Test

  • test designed in clusters of 4 items that build on one another
  • test must be stopped between clusters
  • At no time may a student go back to previous answered items including after
  • an emergency break in the middle of a cluster
  • students not expected to read, write, or manipulate test booklet

Administering Tests

  • Untimed
  • administer at a time most appropriate for student
  • allow breaks as necessary
  • administer test over several days with several sessions
  • Test items must be given in the order they appear in student booklet

Transcribing

  • student responses go into TestNav
  • submit test to be scored
  • enter accommodations info with CTC
  • TA will log into TestNav as student to transcribe responses
  • ressponses are automatically scored when Final Submit is clicked

Steps to Transcribe

  • Log into TestNav
  • must check grade level, subject, form # and name
  • each screen has one question, click on appropriate bubble
  • click next, continue to last question, make sure all questions are answered
  • click submit & exit test, select I am finished & want to submit final answe

Finishing

  • Once exited TestNav ask Pam to verify test is completed
  • Accommodations info must be entered with Pam
  • return all materials including photocopies, objects, textured materials, or
  • instructional tools in sealed envelopes
