Steps in Conceptualizing a CBR Program

STEP 1:
Choose a Community

DO's

- Set initial criteria
- Proceed to Step 2 only if community satisfies initial criteria

DONT's

- Plan program first
- Finalize decision based on 1st step
- Promise things

STEP 2:
Conduct Disability survey & Feasibility Studies

DO's

- Assign staff who are familiar with the place
- Prepare simple and suitable survey tool

DO's

- Identify key persons suitable for survey
- Familiarize key person/volunteer with the survey tool

DO's

- Consider suggestions of respondents
- Pilot test in areas representative of the entire community

DO's

- Produce enough copies of the tool
- Involve people from the community in analyzing the data

DONT's

- Reproduce tool until it has been revised based on results from the Pilot Test
- Forget to be very flexible in dealing with the volunteers
