WHAT KIND OF BATTLE WAS IT?

  • The battle of staligrad was a land battle
  • The city itself was a fortress using all it could for protection
  • The battle was coonsidered one of the bloodiest battles in history
  • This having over 2 million casualties military and civilian
  • Major tank battle

WHEN AND WHY?

  • July 17, 1942- February 2, 1943
  • Germany saw the conquest of Stalingrad as an essential.
  • Stalingrad was an industrial center.
  • Germany needed it as a transportation center.
  • Stalingrad was a key city because it was within 150 miles of Moscow
