Lesson objective:

STUDENTS NEED TO BE ABLE TO interpret different fractions within a shape.

Students need to be able to interpret different fractions within a shape because it will help them be able to add and subtract fractions in the future. It is important to know what potion of a whole is needed for different situations. For example, bakers need to know what half of one cup is.
