PRESENTATION OUTLINE

STAR FORMATION

INTERSTELLAR CLOUD

  • The name given to a region of space that is denser than average.
  • This is where stars are formed.

CLOUD FRAGMENT

  • A small section of an interstellar cloud.
  • Gets smaller and smaller while the core gets denser and denser.
  • The core slowly heats up over time.
  • A proto star forms in the center.

PROTO STAR

  • Earliest stage of an actual star.
  • Has considerably shrunk in size and grown in density.
  • Very high luminosity.
  • The "jets" are matter being shot out at close to the speed of light on the axis of rotation.

MAIN SEQUENCÉ

  • Where our sun and most stars are at.
  • The star is at solar equilibrium.
  • It takes about 40-50 million to reach the main sequence.
  • Interior temperature is about 15,000,000K.
  • (Present)
