THE STATE SHELL:SCOTCH BONNET

  • North Carolina designated the Scotch Bonnet in 1965.
  • Scotch Bonnet is found from Atlantic coast of North Carolina to Brazil.
  • The Scotch Bonnet was named from after caps worn by Scottish peasants.

THE TRADITIONAL NORTH CAROLINA POTTERY FOUND IN SEAGROVE

  • The Seagrove Area was designated as the official state birthplace of North Carolina traditional pottery in 2005
  • It is rich and unique

THE STATE FLOWER IS :THE DOGWOOD

  • The blossom of the Dogwood tree was designated as the official state flower of North Carolina in 1941
  • The Dogwood is one of the most common trees in North Carolina,found in all parts of the state from the mountains to the coast

THE STATE BEVERAGE IS:MILK

  • Milk has been called a nearly perfect food source of protein,calcium and several other important nutrients
  • Less than half of milk produced is consumed as a beverage.
  • Excess is used for butter,cheese,ice cream ,milk,powder and other things too.

THE STATE NICKNAME IS:THE OLD NORTH STATE OR THE TAR HEEL STATE

  • North Carolina state song also has the title and theme.

STATE HORSE:COLONIAL SPANISH MUSTANG

  • North Carolina designated the Colonial Spanish Mustang as the official state horse in 2010.
  • Fourteen states have adopted state horse symbol.

  • The state folk dance is clogging.
  • North Carolina designated clogging as the official sate folk dance in 2005
  • It is a distinctive dance style which originated in the Appalachian mountains

STATE DOG:PLOTT HOUND

  • The state dog is the Plott hound.
  • The Plott hound is athletic,muscular,and agile in appearance.
  • It has a smooth,dense coat in almost any shade of brindle.
  • They also have small white patches on their feet,chest,underbelly.

STATE WILDFLOWER:CAROLINA LILY

  • The state flower is the Carolina lily.
  • The stem of Carolina lily can grow up to 4 feet high and can have up to 6 flowers at the summit.

STATE POPULAR DANCE:SHAG

  • The state popular dance is shag.
  • The Carolina shag is a form of swing dance.
  • There are many other styles of swing dance such as lindyhop,New Yorker,Dallas push,and East coast swing.
