State Shell:Scotch Bonnet
The state shell is the Scotch Bonnet shell. North Carolina designated the Scotch Bonnet (Phalium Granulatum) as official state shell in 1965. The Scotch Bonnet is found along the Atlantic coast from North Carolina to Brazil. The Scotch Bonnet, also know as the Ridged Bonnet, is a medium-sized species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the subfamily Cassinae. The common name alludes to the general outline color of the shell,which vaguely resembles a Tamo' Shanter, a traditional Scottish Bonnet.

State Dog: Plott Hound
The state dog is the Plott Hound. It became the official state dog in 1989. They developed in the mountains of North Carolina by German immigrant Jonathan Plott around 1750 as a wild boar hound. The Plott Hound is a legendary hunting dog. It is a courageous fighter and tenacious tracker, with a spine-tingling, bugle-like call.

The State Plant: Venus FlyTrap
North Carolina designated the Venus Fly Trap as the official state carnivorous plant in 2005. Though the Venus Flytrap is cultivated through out the world, it is native to only a small area. The Venus Flytrap faces a high risk of extinction in the wild.

State Fruit:Scuppernong Grape
The state fruit is the Scuppernong Grape. NorthCarolina designated the Scuppernong Grape as the official state fruit in 2001. A Scuppernong is a large variety of muscadine, type of grape native to the southeastern U.S.). The grape was named after the Scuppernong River of North Carolina. Where it was first discovered. They come from a Sweet Bay tree.

State Reptile: Eastern Box Turtle
The state reptile is Eastern Box Turtle. The Eastern Box Turtle in 1979. The Eastern Box Turtle is found along the east coast of the U.S. and in land as far as Michigan, Kansas,and Texas. The name was inspired by the Box Turtle's ability to retract its head and legs into its shell and clamp it shut. It can also be up to 100 years old.

The state flag is the North Carolina Flag. The flag is red, white, and blue. This flag remained unchanged for over 100 years until 1991.

State Stone: Emerald The state stone is an Emerald. An Emerald crystal, thought to be the largest ever found in North America, weighed 1869 carats. It was found in 2003. It can cost up to $500,000.
