PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Matter Exists in Different Physical States

By Taylor Garcia

States of matter

  • The common state is gas, liquids and solids

Changes

  • WHEN YOU MOVE FROM ICE TO LIQUID WATER WHAT HAPPENS?
  • Its still water!
  • Since it isn't a new object its a physical change

Solids liquids, and gases are commonly states of matter

  • The state between the substances are...
  • The space between the particles
  • The way in which particles move

Solids

  • Its a substance with a fixed volume and a fixed shape
  • There is very little space between particles
  • They only vibrate in place

LIQUIDS

  • Substance with a fixed volume and shape
  • The particles are close together
  • They slide and glide

Gas

  • Has no fixed shape and volume
  • Particles are not close together
  • can move in any direction

TRENDS

  • Space between particles Increases as you move from solid, liquid to gas
  • Except water
  • Solid water is denser than liquid water
  • Particle movement increases as you move from a solid, liquid and gas

PLASMA

  • Gases whose particles have so much energy that they become electrically charged
  • Common state of matter but not common on earth
  • Found on earth in Plasma...TV, fluorescent lights, and lighting discharges

BOSE-EINSTEIN

  • 0 kelvin is the temp where molecules stop moving
  • Doesn't exist anywhere we know
