PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The dinosaurs are not all dead.
I saw one raise it's iron head
To watch me walking down the road
Beyond our house today.
It's jaws were dripping with a load
Of earth and grass that it had cropped.
It must have heard me where I stopped,
Snorted white steam my way,
And stretched its long neck out to see me,
And chewed, and grinned quite amiably.
Steam shovel is a large steam-powered excavating machine designed for lifting and moving material such as rock and soil. It is invented by William Otis
Well Charles Malam describes the Steam Shovel as a "Dinosaur" because of its shape and movement. He tells how it moves, and how it works, just like dinosaur. His purpose is mainly to entertain us, not only to inform about the Steam Shovel.
Sound Devices
Alliteration- The dinosaurs are not all dead. Alliteration because of the sound of "Di, De," it is beginning of a word, that repeats the same consonant sound.
Assonance- And stretched its long neck out to see me
Assonance because the vowel sound repeats.
Rhyme-The dinosaurs are not all dead
I saw one raise it's iron head
Dead and head rhymes at the end.
Repetition-And chewed, and grinned quite amiably. Repetition because the word "and" repeats.
These affect the poem by making it more even catchy to readers. It also makes someone recite it with feelings.
I chose and liked this poem because the poet is awesome, he imagined allot, the lines makes me amazed and gives me energy. Also I haven't been aware yet of Steam Shovel, until I read dinosaur, I still did not knew this 100%, until I kept reading it, I understood it fully.
