PRESENTATION OUTLINE

STEPS ON HOW TO BULD A BOTTLE ROCKET

The first step is to gather the materials. The things that you will need are a 2 liter bottle, construction paper, styrofoam, duct tape, scissors, cardboard, hot glue gun, clay, and water.

The second step is to cut out the fins. There will be two sets of fins. One set will be long and the other set will be short. The two longer fins are 7 1/2 inches long and the shorter fins are 5 1/2 inches long.

To cut out the longer fins you will need to take a piece of cardboard that is 7 1/2 inches long. Then, start at the top right and draw all the way down to the bottom left with any writing utensil and cut that out. Cutting this in half will give you your two longer fins.

To cut out the shorter fins you will need a piece of cardboard that is 5 1/2 inches long. Again, start at the top right and draw a straight line to the bottom left corner and cut that out. Then, once you have done this you will have the two smaller fins.

If you don't know how to use a hot glue gun here are the steps to do so. First, you have to make sure there is a rod of glue in the hot glue gun before you can do anything. Then, plug it in to an outlet and wait till it warms up enough so the glue can melt. Once the glue has warmed up it is now ready to use. To use it you will need to hold down the trigger and then the glue will come out. Be careful it can get very hot.

The third step is optional, but it can help make the nose cone sturdier and heavier. First you have to cut out the styrofoam into three triangles that match up and form a cone-shaped figure. Next, hot glue the edges together in a pyramid shape. Lastly take a piece of clay that is about half the size of your fist and wedge it on the triangle. Also, you can trim the triangles and clay to whatever size you want to fit in the nose cone. Our group cut it in half.

Next you will need to make the nose cone. It is very simple. First, take a piece of construction paper and face any corner to you. Then, take that corner and start rolling on a diagonal. Make sure there is a big enough hole on one side so it can fit on the bottle and that you are making it as straight as possible. Once you have done that use a small piece of duct tape to make it stay together.

After you make the nose cone and the styrofoam weight with the clay you have to put them together. This is for making the nosecone heavier so it doesn't tip, or go to the side while in the air. To do this you will need to put hot glue in a circle around the styrofoam and clay. Then, stick it up into the nose cone as far down as it can go.

One of the last steps you need to do before the rocket is done is hot glue everything together. First, use a marker and mark where the fins are going to go. To know were they go flip the bottle so the bottom side is facing up and between each little ridge, put a mark there. Then, take the four wings and put hot glue on each long, straight part of the wing. Glue them on to the little marks.

To glue on the nose cone face the opening of the nose cone to you and put hot glue on the inside edges. Then, place the nose cone on the bottom side of the bottle and position it correctly.

The last step before you launch your rocket is to fill it up with water. Fill the bottle a little less than half full and screw on the cap so no water comes out.
