WHAT IS ANABOLIC STEROIDS?

  • Anabolic Steroids is a size enhancing drug used by some athletes and farmers.
  • Athletes use steroids to bulk up and build muscle mass.
  • Farmers also use steroids on their livestock to increase their size.
  • Steroids are made of a testosterone normally found in the male and female body, but when used it throws the testosterone balance off.

WHAT ARE CORTICOSTEROIDS?

  • Corticosteroids are used to dampen overactive immune responses
  • Corticosteroid are also used to reduce swelling
  • Used to treat joint pains or inflammation such as arthritis, dermatitis, allergic reactions, asthma, hepatitis, and etc...

SIDE EFFECTS ARE...

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Osteoporosis
  • Crohn's disease
  • Decreases the size male testicle
  • Men may develop breasts
  • Etc.

HOW IT'S MADE

  • One of steroids common characteristics is an arrangement of 17 carbon atoms, in a 4-ring structure.
  • Anabolic steroids are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies and is legal only with a prescription.

WHY STEROIDS ARE BAD

  • If taken by adolescents, it cause their max height to decrease.
  • Steroids can cause increased tendon ruptures.
  • They can cause cardio problems like high blood pressure, heart attacks, and enlargement of hearts left ventricle.
  • Steroids can also cause cancer and tumors.
  • Increased chances of HIV/AIDS
  • Can cause anger and aggression and delusions.

FACTS

  • Nearly 1 in 10 retired NFL players said that they have taken anabolic steroids which are now banned
  • Roughly 77% of young male athletes said that steroid use by pro athletes give youth athletes the impression they should use steroids to get ahead.
  • Often times, drug abusers of steroids take 10-100x more than the prescription of a doctor.

FACTS CONT.

  • Steroid use among teens has seen a slight increase over the years. 2010 2% of HS seniors admitted to trying in, 2013 2.1% tried.
  • Steroids are addictive many times trying to stop causes depression and withdrawal.
