PRESENTATION OUTLINE

STEVE NEALE

WHAT HE BELIEVED

  • Neale is a theorist that believes ‘genres are instances of repetition and difference’.
  • He also said that "Difference is absolutely essential to the economy of genre”. This means that difference in products will make the product more successful.

DANIEL CHANDLER

  • STEVE NEALES THEORY IS CLOSELY RELATED TO DANIEL CHANDLERS THEORY. HOWEVER, THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT NEALE SAID THAT CERTAIN MUSIC GENRES NEED TO HAVE A DIFFERENCE, OTHERWISE THE AUDIENCE WILL NOT BE INTERESTED.

APPLYING THE THEORY
We can apply this theory to our chosen music genre - pop- because we want to create a music video in favour on feminism and getting a strong message out their for strong women. This works in favour as the theory, as we are trying to create a different image for women and have them looked at in a completely different way to how women are usually portrayed in the media.

for example

This image is a perfect of example showing how girls/women are objectified in the media (music videos ) from being around men. They are dressed in white underwear and seen to not be making eye contact with the men. The colour white shows purity, but is quickly turned round to be to complete opposite due to how the women are being objectified by the men who surround them, looking the women up and down.

This is one of many examples of where men are seen to be objectifying women in their music videos. Here are some other examples...

As you can see, this photo is of Little Mix (in decent clothing, covered up) and still looking as beautiful as ever. This image proves that as women, you do not need to be objectified by men in the media by having to wear hardly any clothing.

Little mix portray very strong messages through out there songs, linking with themes of independent women and feminism. This contrasts the standard 'view' and 'outlook' that people have on how women are portrayed in the media.

Salute has a very strong message that goes out to all women about being independent and how you don't need anyone else. it quotes lines about how all women should come and stick together.
