KNOWN AS THE PATRON SAINT OF FARMERS

EARLY LIFE

  • Isidore was born to a poor family in Madrid, Spain.
  • His parents taught him to love god and work hard.
  • He started working as a farm laborer when he was very young.
  • He didn’t have much, he was known for his kindness.

WORK AS A FARMER

  • He worked for a rich land owner named Juan de Vargas.
  • He spent his life doing fieldwork and caring for animals.
  • His farm work showed that simple work can be holy.

FAITH LIFE

  • He went to mass every day before work.
  • He prayed throughout the day, even when farming.
  • He trusted god to provide for him and his family.
  • His faith inspired others to put god first.

MIRACLES

  • Angels helped him with farm work while he prayed.
  • He gave food to the poor that didn’t run out until everyone ate.
  • He used a farm tool to create a fountain from the ground.
  • He prayed to save his donkey from a wolf and it was unharmed.

FAMILY LIFE

  • Isidore married Maria Torribia, who also became St. Maria de la Cabeza.
  • They lived a simple life and shared what they had with others.
  • They had one child who died as a baby.
  • They were a good example of a holy marriage.

IMPORTANT DATES

  • Born in 1070 in Madrid, Spain
  • Died May 15, 1130
  • On May 2,1619 he was beatified in Rome by Pope Paul V.
  • He was canonized on March 12, 1622 in Rome by Pope Gregory XV.
  • His feast day is celebrated every year on May 15.
