setting

A setting is necessary to help the reader visualize where and when the story is taking place.

Main Character

A main character is the focus of the story and should have a good description which includes physical and personality attributes.

Plot - Beginning

The plot is what happens (the action) in the story. There is a beginning...
where the setting is described, the main character is introduced, and the action of the story begins.

Plot - middle

The middle of the story continues the action, characters are further developed, and the story's problem begins to emerge.

Plot - end

The end of the story is usually where the story's problem is solved or fixed.

Problem

Every story has a problem that needs to be solved or fixed. The problem can be big such as a main character getting lost and stranded on an island. Or, the problem can be small such as a turkey burning in the oven an hour before Thanksgiving guests arrive. There can be more than one problem.

Solution

A story's problem should have a solution.
