Santa Anna promised to work for Mexico's recognition of Texas's independence and was released without harm

Houston's 1st term #1 - put army on leave ; Houston sent home all 600 so he wouldn't have to worry about war also so the government wouldn't have to find money to pay soldiers

Houston's first term #2 - Texas Rangers sent to control comanches ; the Texas Rangers controlled the number of raiding parties and they also warned about native texans

houstons 1st term #3 - peace made with Cherokee ; Houston signed a treaty with the Cherokees so the Texan army didn't have to fight Santa Anna and native Texans at the same time in return Texas government would give Cherokees tittle to their land

Lamar - Capital moved ; a change Lamar made was to change capital , Texans thought the capital should be more centrally located. In 1839 congress authorized a new location it was located along Colorado river near Waterloo about 100 miles from San Antonio and was named after

Lamar - Santa Fe Expedition ; Lamar wanted native Texans out of Texas so he created the Santa Fe expedition he sent 270 men to convince Mexicans that they were Texans , Mexicans refused and Texans were arrested until 1842. The Santa Fe wasted money that Texas didn't have , increased tension with Mexico and lost lives

Lamar - Father of Texas public schools ; Lamar is best known for education , like many other Texans he wanted to create a public school education system . In 1830 he made a speech about it. Texas congress agreed to 18,000 acres of schools and 220,000 of universities he became the father of education in Texas for vision of education

Lamar - Redbacks decrease in value ; as Lamar was president the money was becoming worth nothing , dollar bills were becoming worth 12¢ of goods and services he did not have on wars with native Texans and Santa Fe. public dept. increased to 7million by end of Lamar's terms

Houston's 2nd term #1 - Sells ships of the Texas navy ; Moore defied Houston's orders of sending navy to Mexico , he went to New Orleans to repair his ships and resupply his crews. Houston declared Moore as a pirate and invited countries to sink his ships. Moore came home and demanded Court-martial from Houston.

Houston's 2nd term #2 - Efforts to gain annexation ; In April 1844 President John Tyler's secretary agreed to a treaty that would accept Texas as a state in the U.S , The U.S senate rejected because ballot fell one short of 2/3's majority.

Houston's 2nd term #3 - Archives war ; Houston didn't want the capital to be in Austin because of Archives , After Reid by Woll Houston sent men to remove the state archives they loaded archives onto wagons and out of Austin when Angelina Eberly sounded alarm by setting off canon Austin citizens chased wagons and returned archives to Austin they remained throughout Houston's term of office It was resolved when Jones became president

Jones - Texas joins U.S ; On February 26 1845 congress agreed to let Texas join U.S as the 28th state , Mexican government offered to recognize Texas's independence if Texas would reject annexation , Jones presented both offers to Texas congress , members voted for annexation. Constitution was ratified by Texas voters to join in October 1845 & by U.S congress in December 1845 Texas voted to join the U.S as 28th state on February 16 1846 Jones announced annexation of Texas
