Pick the social networks that you connect with. Don't try to do them all, but do them well. Facebook is a good place to start. Whatever services you choose take full advantage of them, don't leave info blank.

Find Your Voice

Whether it is just you posting or a team you need to have a consistent voice/personality. This should sync with your business offline too. How you represent your business should be professional, but it should feel personal. People can tell when you're having fun doing your job, so be sure to have a sense of humor.

Media is Key

Pictures and videos are the most engaging forms of content for people. Work these in a natural manner, but realizing that it needs to look good. Avoid stock photos, if you need help think about hiring a professional photographer or taking a class on photography.

Time Commitment

Set aside time in the day to keep up with your accounts. Realize that this means posting content and replying. Take time to thoughtfully interact with and respond to followers. Avoid being brash or careless.

Sometimes it can be handy to have posts duplicated automatically between services, but this should be done selectively as not to annoy those who may follow you on multiple services.

Your content needs to be engaging, this won't happen if it's not unique. This means that you'll need to put some time into being creative to avoid posting the same things over time.

Deal with Conflict

Ignoring or deleting a comment will not help your business. Determine to leave your customers wishing all businesses were like yours.

Disastrous Posts

It happens to the best of us, we're human and we make mistakes. How we deal with these mistakes is what matters. Be willing to acknowledge and move forward, don't be drug down by a bad post.
