STRIPED BASS

6 IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS

  • Silvery.
  • Shading to olive green on back.
  • White on belly.
  • Seven or eight horizontal line on its sides.
  • Dorsal fin is spiny. #6:Has soft rayed portions

LIFE OF FISH

  • Longevity is 30 years.
  • Spawning occurs during the Spring time.
  • Striped bass reach to sizes of 10-12in. long.
  • Eat members of the herring family gizzard shads, & threads in shads.
  • Males mature in 2 years females do in 3-4.

HABITAT & DISTRIBUTION

  • Stripers are anadromous.
  • They live in a variety of habitats like shores,bays,& estuaries.
  • Striped bass are costal species that far upstream for spawning.
  • The native range is along the Atlantic coast east of the Appalachian Mount.

  • Is also called the Striper,Rockfish, & Lineside.
  • Fourth most preferred species for Texas anglers.
  • largest saltwater striped to date was 67.5 pounds.
  • Can live in fresh and saltwater.
  • Anadromous means ascending rivers from the sea for breeding

HOW TO CATCH THIS FISH

  • The best way to catch this fish is to use silver spoons or artificial lures.
  • Also deep running lures can work as well as live or cut bait.

HOW TO CATCH THIS FISH( 5 TACTICS)

  • Try night fishing to catch a large striped bass when it's most active.
  • Troll for striped bass as it allows you to cover a lot of ground.
  • Bottom fishing is another great to use because the Striper is often near the bottom.
  • Look for baitfish. That the Striper is attracted to since the tend to follow their food.
  • If the striped bass is being picky use a fishing rig, the bottom fishing rig is more popular to use.
