Man vs. Society


Gale describes the hospital in such a negative fashion because patients were not receiving adequate medical attention. District 8 was being bombed by the Capitol because Katniss was there at the hospital with the injured citizens of the rebellions. The Capitol was trying to kill her.

"Now the citizens live almost exclusively underground. You can go outside for the exercise and sunlight, but only specific times in your schedule. You can't miss your schedule" (Collins,17).

Man vs. Society

Katniss explains the pressure of being almost always underground with very limited restrictions in her schedule. Being forced underground, she has had to adapt the new environment of 13.

"Katniss...how do you think this will end?what will be left? No one is safe. Not in the Capitol. Not in the districts. And you... in thirteen..." "Dead by morning" (Collins, 133).

Man vs. Fate

This was the first time that Peeta sends message or contacts Katniss. She was shocked to see that Peeta was still alive. This video was fortunate because Peeta was able to tell 13 that they were going to be bombed in minutes, saving many lives.

"That white-as-snow rose is a personal message to me. It speaks of unfinished business. It whispers, I can find you. I can reach you. Perhaps I am watching you now" (Collins, 15)

Man vs. Man

This resembles her fear of Snow. The rose reminds her of the President, haunting her of the people whom she loves who are disappearing.

"A hovercraft marked with the Capitol's seals materialized directly over the bar academe children. Scores of silver parachutes rain down from them. Even in this chaos, the children know what they contain Food. Medicine. Gifts. They eagerly scoop them up, frozen fingers struggling with the strings. The hovercraft vanishes, five seconds pass, and then about twenty simultaneously explode" (Collins, 346).

Man vs. Society
Man vs. Self

The parachutes going off was the climax of the story. From this point on, Katniss loses Prim her sister, changing her view of life and brings her into a depressed state in her life. The rebels set off this bomb which was successful in resolving the war.

"It takes ten times as long to put yourself back together as it does to fall apart" (Collins, 156).

Man vs. Self

Finnick says this to Katniss because he understands the conflict of losing the ones you love in the battle of fighting the Capitol. Katniss is falling apart, filled with gloomy sorrow, by loosing everything for the freedom of the rebels.

The conflict between Katniss and the Capitol was resolved after she was capture and released back to her home. Katniss's self conflict was resolved by time and nurturing of Peeta.
