  • it has been active for much of the last 2,000 years
  • it is 2,900 ft. off sea level and 10,000 ft. above sea level.

HISTORY
records from 1907 indicate one explosion was strong enough to shatter windows in the islands villages, and in 1930 strong explosions were associated with an earthquake that also created a small tsunami. The most recent eruption began in 1932, and has continued essentially uninterrupted since then.

FACTS/MYTHS
the n-most of island of Aeolian is famous for it's spectacular night time explosion, that have attracted visitors all over the world and brought the volcano the nickname " Light house of the Mediterranean".

HOW IT ERUPTED
Stromboli's activity has been recorded more than 1,000 years, the Stromboli eruption was mild degassing to lava flows to violent eruptions when it first erupted.

The African Plate is subduction under the Eurasian Plate which creates the Stromboli Volcano.

Stromboli is a very small Italian volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea just North of Sicily. It's a little more than 900m high volcano itself and has a very small size of 12.6 kilometers. 2 kilometers North East of Stromboli is the small, uninhabited island Strombolicchio.

The Stromboli does not erupt huge explosions anymore but the volcano flows lava occasionally.
