HOW SUN AFFECTS YOUR SKIN

  • our skin uses UV rays to make vitamin D
  • too much exposure to UV rays can break down skin's elastic proteins
  • excessive exposure to UV is the leading cause of skin cancer
  • sunburn is a common result of too much UV
  • controlled exposure to UV can kill bacteria on the skin and get rid of acne

STEPS TO TAKE TO PROTECT/MAINTAIN HEALTHY SKIN

  • use sunscreen
  • stay hydrated
  • wear sun protective clothing
  • limit sun exposure

IF YOU DON'T PROTECT YOURSELF:

  • sunburn
  • skin damage (moles, sun spots)
  • heat exhaustion
  • heat stroke
  • risk of skin cancer
