SUNFISH OF MINNESOTA

FOUND IN MANY OF THE MINNESOTA LAKES AND RIVERS

DESCRIPTION

  • Theyre usually around 1-3 lbs
  • Around 5-7 inches
  • Males are more colorful than females
  • They can lay up to 50,000 eggs at one time!
  • Theyre found in 65% of minnesota lakes, rivers, and streams

HABITAT OF THE SUNFISH

  • Smaller sunfish such as the green and pumpkinseed live mostly in the weeds
  • Bluegill once they are at there physical peak of which they dont grow they live in the open waters

FOOD/DIET

  • They usually eat tiny zooplankton or algae
  • Some of them eat small fish
  • They usally live 1-2 years

INTERESTING FACTS

  • If food is scarce, they will sometime eat their eggs
  • Theyre the most popular fish in minnesota
  • There are a lot of hybrid sunfish, as panfish have very similar genes
  • Can be so small, they can slip between the tight spaces to hide from other fish
