Survivorship now

Network On Wellness
SNOW was started by cancer survivors for cancer survivors. During treatment, patients are surrounded by doctors, nurses, counselors, and other supports. Once treatment is over, the support is gone. Now what? How do you begin to rebuild your life with your changed perspective and altered body?

Live Life Well

After Treatment
SNOW is designed to help fill the gap between treatment and full recovery. It is available to survivors of any cancer: those who may have had surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or other medical interventions for cancer.

Wellness

  • Nutrition
  • Exercise
Part of SNOW's mission is to provide opportunities for survivors to live long and healthy lives. Two key aspects of wellness are nutrition and exercise.

Sometimes cancer treatments alter how your body can handle foods. What you once ate freely, you may no longer tolerate.

Treatment may also have altered your body itself. Surgery, chemotherapy and radiation disrupt so many ways your body works. After treatment, you may need help figuring out how to regain strength, balance and flexibility.

Togetherness

  • Connection
  • Service
Cancer can leave you feeling very much alone. Family and friends may be there to support you, but they may not have a full understanding of what it feels like to have faced the loss of key body functions and even possible loss of life.

SNOW is a network that connects cancer survivors with each other and with experts in a variety of fields that can support healing.

Service to others has been proven to enhance personal well being. SNOW gives survivors opportunities to reach out and help others who may be worse off at the time.

In addition, other community members find opportunities through SNOW to help cancer survivors. That is a win-win solution.

Meaning

  • Education
  • Spirit and Joy
Cancer can leave you feeling overwhelmed and bewildered. When you are first diagnosed, you have experts offering a variety of information. But once you are out of treatment, you may not know where to turn for more information about staying healthy. SNOW can provide education in a variety of healing ways.

Perhaps most important, survivors need to have a chance to enjoy life without the specter of cancer hanging over them. SNOW provides many opportunities for lightness and laughter to bring spirit and joy to the forefront of life.

Programs

  • Myofascial Rock-N-Rollin'
  • Art as Healing
  • Music for the Survivors' Souls
  • Yoga
  • Facebook 101
Programs at SNOW are provided free of charge to cancer survivors and their care-givers. The website lists a wide variety of programs that are available and the options grow and change regularly. Some classes, like yoga, art and fitness meet regularly with the same group for several sessions. While others are one-time special presentations by experts in the field. Since SNOW is a local organization, it is not complicated for someone to offer new opportunities. All of the contact information can be found on the SNOW website or facebook page.
