  • First amendment for the US forbids that would limit people's speech
  • Burning a flag that didn't make it okay to limit the speech
  • Johnson was sentenced to a year in prison and fined 2,000$
  • Johnson poured kerosene on the flag and set it on fire in front of Dallas City Hall

ARGUMENT

  • Speech is intended to show a message
  • American flag is to show a message

DECISION

  • Burning of the flag is an act of expression that is intended to convey message
  • Johnson was put in prison for a year and fined 2,000$
  • People will have ideas some offensive and some not.
  • Rights to express ideas can send people in an up roar
  • They should have a freedom to have their own speech.

  • I agree with the paper that people should be untitled to their own mind and speech

  • What happend then and what happens now with other cases is not much different
  • They gave Johnson a chance to say what he wants only he didn't have a choice to a lawyer or right to remain silent
