SHORT TALK IDEAS...

BABBLE GABBLE

  • Children sit back to back.
  • Each child has 30 seconds of non-interrupted time to talk about a subject/question/share their work etc.
  • The listener has to listen carefully to what is being said and when it is their turn, they have to include a comment from about what they have heard

BABBLE GABBLE PURPOSE?

  • Opportunity for all children to talk without having to do so in front of the whole class.
  • EVERY child gets to talk.
  • They can talk without pressure of people starring at them.
  • It only takes 1 minute and everyone has taken part.

TEACH ME TELL ME...

TEACH ME TELL ME...

  • Children walk around with whiteboard.
  • On one side is the question, the other side is the answer.
  • Children meet and one has to say what the answer is to the question-if right they show answer and move on.
  • Even better if children show answer and person has to work out what the question could be.

  • Mallet's mallet if you are old enough...
  • Children face each other
  • Topic is named (describe Scrooge)
  • They then say word back and forward.
  • Last 39 seconds or so...

TALK TALLY

  • Children then go and complete talk tally grid.
  • Leave a couple of spaces blank to add any extra words.
  • Stick this in books!

RR AND TALK TALLY-PUROSE...

  • Children have a bank of key words appropriate to the learning.
  • Words created by the children.
  • Learning from each other.

SNOWBALLS

SNOWBALLS

  • Children write one sentence, or one word to show their thoughts/understanding.
  • Screw paper into snowball but put a personalised marking on outside (so they can retrieve it later)
  • Throw it at given space.
  • One table at a time to collect, write a different point and throw again.
  • After 4 times , children collect their own which has their idea and at least three others on.

  • Help children who struggle with ideas to get extra ideas given to them
  • Fun/lively/engaging.
  • Children learning from each other.

SNOWBALLS TO AEROPLANES

  • Children make a paper aeroplane and write a fact to show their understanding of a topic.
  • Have two lines of children facing each other.
  • Throw, pick, read, write, throw...repeat.

  • Objects, sentences, key words, pictures, facts around the room.
  • Children given time to walk round and look at them all (briefly)
  • Go and stand by one:answer, have something to talk about/say about it/have a question/or something to discuss.
  • They then have time to discuss as a small group.
  • When time is up, move to a new picture-talk about new picture-can they make reference to previous discussion.

  • Build child discussion
  • Every child taking part
  • Children learning from each other.
  • No pressure of writing.
  • Random groupings
  • Up and moving.
