What is a tapeworm?
a parasitic flatworm, the adult of which lives in the intestine of humans and other vertebrates. It has a long ribbonlike body with many segments that can become independent, and a small head bearing hooks and suckers.
Life cycle of a tapeworm.
You can prevent tapeworm infection by cooking pork, beef or fish thoroughly and making sure it is cooked all the way through. This will kill any tapeworm eggs or larvae that may be present. It is also sensible to do this when cooking other meats, such as lamb, venison or hare.
How to prevent your pets from being infected with tapeworms.
Pets usually obtain tapeworms from fleas, so treating them for fleas regularly should help.
The most common way to diagnose tapeworms is by tiny white pieces that look like rice grains. If your pet is infected,they can be treated by prescription from a veterinarian.

Treatment for tapeworms.
Tapeworms are usually treated with medication taken by mouth.
The most common treatment is praziquantel.
