WHAT IS A TAPEWORM ?

  • A parasitic flatworm that lives in some animals, it can infect them.

HOW TO PREVENT TAPEWORMS ...

  • By cooking pork, beef or fish thoroughly and all the way through. 🍤🍔🍗
  • A plate that has held raw meat or fish should be washed well before it is used.
  • Wash raw vegetables and fruit before you eat them. 💦🍋🍆
  • Freezing meat and fish at temperatures below 14(f) for at least 48 hrs also kills tapeworm eggs.

WHAT ARE SOME PREVENTION TIPS RELATED TO CONTACT WITH PETS?

  • By eliminating fleas and lice from the environment.
  • 🐶 should be confined to prevent them from roaming and eating dead animals.
  • Avoid feeding your pet raw meat.

PREVENTION TIPS RELATED TO PERSONAL HYGEINE

  • Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water 💦👐💦
  • When handling food make sure the area is thoroughly cleaned.
  • Also make sure kitchen equipment is thoroughly cleaned as well.

SYMPTOMS OF TAPEWORM INFECTION IN HUMANS

  • Vomiting.
  • Nausea.
  • General weakness.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Weight loss.

TREATMENT FOR TAPEWORM INFECTION IN HUMANS

  • If you suspect you have tapeworms, you should see your doctor.
  • If worms are not detected in the stool, your doctor may order a blood test.
  • The blood test will help find antibodies to help fight the tapeworm infection.
  • The type and length of treatment will depend on what type of tapeworm you have.
