Temperate Grassland

ERIN GILLESPIE, CORRIE BROWN

LOCATIONS

  • North America
  • Africa
  • Asia
  • South America

Average Monthly Rainfall

  • Each year the rainfall is about 25-30 inches per year
  • Around 2.5 inches per month

Average monthly temperature

  • In winters, some temperate grasslands can reach -40 degrees Fahrenheit
  • In summers, some of the grasslands can reach 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

Abiotic Factors

  • Climate, this includes
  • Temperature
  • Rainfall
  • Windflow
  • Ground Moisture

Abiotic Factors

  • Wildfires
  • Water from streams
  • Cold winters
  • Warm-hot summers

Adaptations

  • First, some plants like the prairie tree have adapted to fires by having thick bark.
  • Second, the grassland grasses grow from the bottom just in case the tips freeze or burn off in a fire.
  • Third, animals have adapted to the cold by hibernating.

Endangered Animal

  • Black Footed Ferret
  • If it was removed from the ecosystem there would be
  • many more prairie dogs, which people see as
  • pests and can cause diseases.

Mans Impact

  • Eventually it was banned, but mans impact on the grassland was hunting species for their valuable body parts.
  • Man made fires this causes many areas to be burned down.
  • Burning fossil fuels caused changes in the climate.
  • From all these impacts many species lost their lives and homes.
