RAINFOREST ECOSYSTEM

  • The climate usually stays between 68-93 degrees.
  • Rainforests are located near the equator.
  • Some animals that live here are toucans, tree frogs, snakes, and tigers.
  • Some trees have smooth/thin barks to protect them from water loss.
  • 50- 260 inches of rain

DESERT ECOSYSTEMS

  • Very hot, little rain, 1 cm to 1 inch of rain
  • Lizards, snakes, spiders
  • Cactus can store water in them
  • There a plains, mountains, sand, rolling plains

DESERTS CONTINUED...

  • When it rains cactus can store water.
  • Cactus and other vegetation have prickles on them.

GRASSLAND ECOSYSTEMS

  • The climate ranges from -40-70 degrees.
  • Rolling plains,
  • 20-35 inches of precipitation
  • Some animals in the grasslands are coyotes, bobcats, and eagles.

GRASSLANDS CONTINUED...

  • Some grasses have narrow leaves that help them survive without water
  • Some grasses also have long root systems that keep them in the ground

DECIDUOUS FOREST ECOSYSTEMS

  • The average climate is about 50 degrees.
  • There are trees, mountains, hills
  • Some animals that live here are eagles, squirrels, and snakes.
  • 750-1500 mm of precipitation

  • Leaves turn different colors (photosynthesis)
  • They are located in eastern United States

TUNDRA ECOSYSTEMS

  • Very cold, 6-10 inches of precipitation
  • Located in North/South Poles and Antarctica
  • Flower with silky hairs to insulate it.
  • Ice bergs, snow, water
  • Polar bears, foxes, penguins

TAIGA/BOREAL FOREST ECOSYSTEMS

  • -65-70 degrees
  • Birds, squirrels
  • Trees, plains
  • 12-33 inches of precipitation

MOUNTAIN/ICE ECOSYSTEMS

  • Mountains, ice, grass
  • Fairly cold, about 12 inches of precipitation.
  • Located in Eastern United States.

MARINE ECOSYSTEMS

  • The climate is 39 degrees
  • Located in oceans (covers 70% of the world)
  • Jellyfish, sharks, fish, star fish
  • Water, sand
  • Seagrams grows in shallower areas.

FRESHWATER ECOSYSTEMS

  • The climate ranges from 40-70 degrees
  • Lili pads have roots that keep them keep them in the water.
