location of capital.....

  • The location of the capital was a constant problem in Texas.
  • It constantly changed towns due to control over Texas and Indian Territory.
  • Sam Houston ultimately moved the capital to what is now known as Austin

lack of recognition.....

  • Texas wasn't very known as a nation state at the time.
  • This was a huge issue, since Texas needed to be annexed to the U.S.
  • It was also bad for trade, since most european countries didn't recognize.

Slavery.....

  • Slavery was enforced by some Texas political figures.
  • Due to that, it was hard for Texas to be annexed to the U.S.
  • It soon faded after the Texas revolution.

Army unrest....

  • Several armies came after the Texas revolution, leading to unrest.
  • Indian attacks were also common, making the unrest worse.
  • There was also conflict when the leaders the leaders were switched.

Indian conflict....

  • The indians constantly got their land stolen from Texans.
  • There was supposed to be a treaty, but failed.
  • The comanches were massacred under Lamar's leadership.

debt....

  • Texas was in debt of 10,000,000 dollars.
  • The debt worsened after every governor.
  • They attempted to take care of it by selling land,which failed.
  • The texas currency lost its worth quickly.

Mexico....

  • Texas revolution led to conflict with Mexico.
  • It took several years for Texas and Mexico to negotiate afterwards.
  • Trade was also hard due to Mexico's proximity, but was resolved by the navy

Education....

  • Education was also a major problem, since it was a seperate state atm.
