The State Large Mammal
The Longhorn

.The longhorn was adopted as the state large mammal in 1995.
.It was adopted because of it's beef and there are more longhorn than any other state.

State Dish
Chili

.The state dish, chili was adopted as the Texas state dish in 1977.
.Texas legislature proclaimed chili the state dish" in recognition of the fact that the only real" bowl of red" is that prepared by Texans.

Texas' state citrus fruit
The Grapefruit

.The Red Grapefruit was the official state fruit in 1993.
. It is a cross breed of a pummelo and a orange.

Armadillo
. Texas adopted the Nine-Band Armadillo in 1927.

State flag
Texas Flag
The blue stands for loyalty, the white stands for purity, and the red for bravery.

State bird
The Mockingbird
They can mimic the sounds of insects five feet underground.

Monarch Butterfly
Only one week after laying eggs the female butterfly dies.

The olives mean peace and the oak branch means strength.

State reptile
Horned Toad
When the horned toad feels threatened, it makes it' shelf bleed out of the eye.

On March 7, 1901, the 27 Texas Legislature adopted the bluebonnet, flower of the annual legume Lupinus subcarnosus, as the state flower.
