- presents the similarities and/or differences between two items, such as a pair of events, time periods, ideas, or places.
- Signal words: like, unlike, but, in contrast, on the other hand, however, also, opposed to
5. ORDER AND SEQUENCE
- describes events in the order in which they happen; also called chronological order.
- Signal words: first, next, before, then, after that, finally, at the same time
