FRONTAL LOBE

  • Your personality, behavior, and emotion are from here.
  • Here is where your intelligence, self-awareness, and concentration comes from
  • It controls body movement
  • Your judgement, planning and problem skills come from here.
  • Speaking and writing are developed here.
  • This area of the brain is in the front of your head.

OCCIPITAL LOBE

  • Interprets what you see/vision
  • Light, movement, and color are developed in this area of the brain
  • This part of your brain is in the back of your head

TEMPORAL LOBE

  • Part of the brain that understands language
  • Memory is part of the Temporal Lobe
  • Recognizes objects
  • Organization skills are created here
  • Interprets sound
  • Is located on the side of your head

PARIETAL LOBE

  • Located on top of your head
  • Senses pain, touch, and temperature without this lobe you cannot feel temperature or pain
  • Interprets words/language
  • Knowledge of numbers, objects, shapes, and spaces
  • Understands signals from hearing, motor, sensory, vision, and memory

CEREBELLUM

  • It controls balance
  • Contains info for voluntary motor skills
  • Without a Cerebellum you cannot walk
  • Located at back/bottom of your head

BRAIN STEM

  • It connects the brain the body
  • Keeps in checks/controls the automatic systems in our body (breathing, blinking...)
  • If you damage the brain stem you will not be able to control everything in your body.
  • Located near the neck

CEREBRUM

  • Largest part of the brain
  • Has two halves, left hemisphere and right hemisphere
  • Each hemisphere controls the opposite side of your body

BRAIN FACTS

  • The brain is part of the nervous system
  • It controls everything we do
  • The left side of your brain is in charge of language, logic, reading, writing, math and analysis
  • The right side of the brain controls creativity, intuition, art, music, personality, and spatial abilities
  • The brain is protected by the skull
  • There are six parts of the brain
  • Is a three pound organ

PITUITARY GLAND

  • Size of an almond
  • Reacts to stress
  • Connected to the hypothalamus( Hypothalamus = controls thirst, blood pressure, emotion, and hunger
  • Lays at bottom of skull
  • Fights multiple diseases
  • Is the "top" gland
  • Controls hormones

CRANIAL NERVES

  • 12 pairs of it
  • 10 of the pairs controls facial sensations, hearing, taste, face movement, tongue, shoulders, swallowing, and neck

MEMORIES

(3) THREE KINDS OF MEMORY

Short Term Memory: Memorizes up to 7 items, stores info for ABOUT one minute, and is called a working memory.

Skill Memory: Relays info, stores automatic learnt memories, like writing, riding a scooter, and typing on a computer.

Long Term Memory: Unlimited storage and content, turned on when wanted to memorize something for a longer period of time, stores personal memories, and it is processed in the hippocampus.
