THE 6 ELEMENTS OF A STORY

SETTING

  • The setting is the specific time and place that a story takes place.
  • Time could be a historical period, time of day, year, or date.
  • The location can be described in weather conditions or even mood and atmosphere.

CHARACTER

  • Can be the person in a work of fiction.
  • Characters of a person.
  • Every story should have a protagonist.
  • Antagonist, flat, round, static, dynamic, foils, or stock are other characters
  • Example: Spongebob is the protagonist in Spongebob Squarepants.
Example: spongebob is the protagonist.

PLOT

  • The sequence of events in a story that the author arranges.
  • Usually the plot is divided into five parts.
  • Introduction, initiating incident, rising action, climax, then denouement

CONFLICT

  • Without a conflict there would be no plot in a story.
  • Also known as the problem or central struggle.
  • The four kinds of conflicts are:
  • Human vs. Human, Human vs. Nature, Human vs. Society, and Human vs. Self

POINT OF VIEW

  • The perspective from which a story is told
  • First, second, and third are the common ones.
  • Other forms of p.o.vs are:
  • Innocent eye, stream of consciousness, omniscient, and objective.

THEME

  • The author's underlying meaning or main idea.
  • Usually is the moral of the story.
  • The author will use some kind of figure of speech to emphasize the theme.
  • Examples:don't judge a book 📖 by its cover and don't always believe what you see.
  • "Don't Judge People By Their Looks"
