"The African Queen", written by C.S Foster, is a tale of true strength guided by intense conflicts that push the characters to their full potential

As they steer their way through rapids and currents, love has also bloomed between the two adventurers, making the novel increasingly engaging

This novel entertains the reader with characters so alive they seem to jump off the page

The reader sees and feels through the characters the harsh realities of war without restraint

Different perspectives are also taken into account which makes the novel an even broader experience

Forester may have wished to portray the issues of that time period through his novel as well

Such as the expectations of woman and the countless restrictions due to their gender

The character Rose Sayer is a perfect example of those struggles. We as readers are able experience the emotions of woman in the past through this novel

To prove the true strength of women, Forester only needed to create an environment where Rose could be away from the restrictions of society

After doing so, Rose had grown to be her true self, rather than fitting into what society had expected of her

Away from the eyes of society, Rose was finally able to prove herself worthy as she had grown to surpass many of the men in her world

Historically the novel is quite accurate despite it being fiction

During WWI in the early 1900's, Germany and Britain had in fact been enemy states caught between a brutal battle

With the ongoing war, it would not be unlikely for Germany to hunt for Recruits in third world countries such as Africa

Other factors that prove the novel's accuracy would be the time it was set, which is the summer of 1914

which was in fact when Britain was at war against Germany caught up in a race of arms.

"The African Queen" chooses to portray a tale of war over the sea rather than land, which is also quite an interesting take

Characters are forced to endure weeks of painful labour, danger, heat and sickness atop the rickety old steam boat

Whether they accomplish their goal is not the ultimate purpose of the novel, but rather the character development provoked by the events throughout it

However as they reach their destination they have yet to face increasingly challenging struggles

The conflicts contribute towards the tale by making it more realistic yet creative

This novel may seem slow paced, but it is entirely worth the wait

It utilizes numerous elements such as language, imagery and irony to enrich the experience even further

The rating I would give this book would be a 7.6/10

Because although this book may have been a good read, it did have some flaws

While reading the book I did feel as though some parts of it were either unnecessary and as if it were dragging on

Although it was not persistent enough of an issue to cause me to put it down or dislike it

That may be because I really did enjoy the atmosphere of the novel in which adventure is prominent and war is reality

Overall, the book was a good read as I was able to learn numerous things while experiencing a tale of adventure, love and true strength
