  • JUSTINIAN was determined to revive Ancient Rome by overrun invaders
  • Byzantine armies reconquered North Africa, Italy, and Southern Spain
  • The fighting exhausted Justinian's treasury and his defense in the east

  • Early in his reign,he set up a commission to revise the laws in Rome
