The American Deaf Culture

As a whole sign language started in France with Abbe de L'Epee. However, ASL started in 1814-1817 with Dr.Thomas Gallaudet.

Before 1817 there was no formal education or language for the Deaf. However, through the years before 1817 the deaf communities were able to collectively create various signing systems of their own, of which are now known as Old American Sign Language

To understand the Deaf community there must first be the understanding of culture, language, and identity as representations of the same idea.

the Deaf Culture was not recognized until 1965.

One of the central beliefs of the Deaf community would be "Deaf Pride"

There is also the Deaf rules of conversation. Which consist of both hearing and Deaf interactions.

Hearing people tend to forget or are uneducated in the fact American Sign Language, while translated into the American English Language to learn and teach, has no connection, in terms of grammar and structure, to the spoken language of English.
