HOW THE EGYPTIAN SPHINX WAS MADE

  • Limestone blocks that weighed up to 200 tonnes.
  • Nose was built originally but beard was not.
  • They had access to limestone and bedrock limestone.
  • It had many different rooms inside of it.
  • It had a stone tablet between its paws with a story on it.
The great Egyptian sphinx was originally a proud standing statue with nothing broken off in 2520-2494 BC. But before that it had started miles away from a quarry with a huge ditch being made in front of pharaoh Khufu's giant Giza pyramid and that u-shaped ditch had a rectangle in the bottom center. Then it had started to rise higher with the limestone bedrock and regular limestone and living stone that were about tonnes each. It had the body of a lion and the head of a human and inside of the sphinx were different rooms. It once had a beard and a nose but the nose was chopped off by people and the beard just fell off and is now inside of a british museum. There was also a stone tablet placed between its paws that told a story of the man that dug it out. Also the original sphinx was said to have been colored bright color, the head was blue the body was red and the mane was yellow.

Interesting facts and features

  • The sphinx is belived to stand as a guard for the royal giza pyramid
  • The sphinx was finally fully dug out in 1925
Some interesting facts and features about the Egyptian sphinx are that the face of the sphinx is the khafres sons which makes it the oldest large scale royal portrait known. Also the great sphinx is the largest free standing sculpture and the face faces the east which was the rising of the sun. Apparently a millennium after it was built the sphinx was in sand up to the neck. The sphinx had a story of a prince who was told in his sleep that he had to dig out the sphinx to be the Pharaoh and so he did it and became the Pharaoh. But the sphinx was entirely dug out in 1925. The name sphinx was given by the Greeks from its looks and it is said to be there to guard the gizas plateau.

The ancient purpose of legacy

  • It is not connected to the doorway of Atlantis of anything else
  • It was just a trend
  • Though a detached head in a museum suggests it had been stone earlier
  • Most people think the sphinx was recreated
  • Apparently built by living stone
Some meanings of the Egyptian sphinx was that it was not a keeper of great knowledge or technology or had anything to do with Atlantis. It held no secrets to anything just a monumental symbol of Egyptian kingship, probably solar worship. Khafre didn't want to end the creative kingship trend, so he decided to built the sphinx. But some controversy has surrounded the sphinx about if it was really created at his time but others think it was created in the 4th dynasty. The sphinx told that the kings had linked between mankind and gods. The lion is usually used to show royalty and most other statues were bird like but he apparently did not want it that way he wanted to show royalty.

The modern day use or applications

  • The sphinx was used to represent the link of gods and mankind
  • It was to tell stories
  • It was to tell people about the egyptians
  • It was to tell people about Khafre who was not a leader that was fine with
  • To show their religion and the power and royalty they had
The modern day use of the Egyptian sphinx was to tell of the Egyptians religion and power they had against the rest and to show they really believe in these gods whatever the cost is. It is a lion of royalty and has the head of mankind to show the link of them, gods to mankind. Khafre wanted to show that he was a good leader and did not believe in death or accidents so he decided to make a simple sculpture.
