ARMADILLOS

  • Mammals with Hard Outer Coverings/Shells
  • Generally are greyish-brown, with a long scale looking tale
  • Only 1 of the species made its home in the US
  • Nine banded species made it to US

WHAT ARMADILLOS EAT:

WHERE DO ARMADILLOS LIVE IN GEORGIA?

  • Many of the armadillos that live in GA, live in the central (Piedmont region) and southern (costal plains region)
  • They tend to live in the forests and swamp places throughout the listed regions
  • Signs of Armadillos are growing in northern GA because armadillos are growing in population

These over-protective animals have 2 ways of protection: 1 Curling up into a ball and being protected by the hard scales. 2 Camouflage with the surrounding environment.

THE APPALACHIAN GENTIAN

The flower found from Georgia to Pennsylvania

WHAT DO THEY LOOK LIKE?

  • Leaves are 2-4 inches long
  • Flowers themselves are 1-2 inches
  • Can grow up to 20 inches if in good climate
  • Blue, white or violet with blue and/or purple stripes

FUN FACT:

These flowers were used as tonic to the Cherokee Tribe

  • Group: Dicot
  • Leaves, stalks and petals are all close together in the flower structure
  • Scientific name: Gentiana Austromontana
  • Their most common bloom color: Blue

Georgia has the right climate for this plant, which blooms in the fall season. In Georgia, fall is not to hot, cold, rainy, or sunny, which is just what this plant likes
