  • Our foremost national symbol - Expresses identity and pride
  • Should be treated with dignity and respect
  • Union Jack - to acknowledge our historical links with United Kingdom
  • Commonwealth Star - 7 points representing our States and Territories
  • Southern Cross - 5 stars that are only seen in Southern Hemisphere

PROTOCOLS

  • Raise after dawn/lower before dusk/light at night
  • 2 flags should not be flown from same flagpole
  • Australian Flag should be raised first and lowered last
  • Should be raised quickly/lowered ceremoniously
  • Should not be allowed to fall or lie on ground
