LEADING UP TO THE BATTLE

  • The Germans victory over the British and Spanish army is what led up to this battle.

DETAILS

  • Heavy German bombing destroyed Dunkirk's harbor
  • 198,000 British and 140,000 French and Belgian troops had been saved when the operation ended.
  • 933 ships took part in Operation Dynamo, of which 236 were lost and 61 put out of action

  • Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of around 350,000
  • British, French, and Belgian troops from Dunkirk, enabled
  • the Allies to continue the war and was a major boost
  • to British morale.

  • British were able to rescue 200,000 people, but lost France

SIGNIFICANCE

  • It resulted in the capture of France by Germany after
  • British forces evacuated. This evacuation was
  • termed a miracle by Winston Churchill.
