The battle of the Atlantic was fought throughout the Atlantic Ocean. It was a battle that was fought entirely through using boats and submarines. Both sides tried to destroy ships. Historians estimate that more then 100 convoy battles took place and that is cost the merchant navy more then 30,000 men and around 3,000 ships. While the Germans suffered a loss of 783 U- Boats and an estimated 28,000 men

duration it made it the longest continuous military campaign in total it lasted 5 years 8 months and 5 days
