The battle of the Atlantic was fought throughout the Atlantic Ocean. It was a battle that was fought entirely through using boats and submarines. Both sides tried to destroy ships. Historians estimate that more then 100 convoy battles took place and that is cost the merchant navy more then 30,000 men and around 3,000 ships.
