WHY WAS THE BATTLE FOUGHT?

  • The battle was forgot because the French had lost many men in the city of Verdun.
  • This had been going on for several months and the French needed some relief.
  • They started planning an attack on the Germans from the North of Verdun.
  • This then required the Germans to move their men away from the Battlefield of Verdun.
