VICKSBURG IS IN THE CONFEDERATE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI ON THE EAST BANK OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.

WHAT IS THE SIGNIFICANCE OF VICKSBURG AND WHAT DID ABRAHM LINCOLN THINK OF IT

  • It gave the union (North) complete control of the Mississippi River
  • It split the confederate (south) in two

CASUALTIES OF THE BATTLE

  • Total of 110,000 soldiers went into the battle
  • 37,402 soldiers total died in the battle
  • 4,910 soldiers died on the union side
  • And 32,492 soldiers died on the confederate side
