  • For more than 2 years French and British forces tried to capture Vimy Ridge but were unsuccessful.
  • In late 1916 Canadians were chosen to fight in the battle.

Where did it happen?

  • Vimy, Pas-de-Calais France near the somme.

When did it happen?

  • The battle started April, 9th 1917
  • There were many events that happened before the battle started the start of Vimy Ridge was in 1914, when Germans took over the spot.

  • Canadians planned to attack in less than two hours they had their first objective.
  • April, 10 Canadians captured Hill 145, which is the highest point of Vimy Ridge.
  • April 12 Canadians took the last German position "the pimple"
