  • June 25, 1950 North Korean forces surpise attacked South Korean
  • South Korea called the United Nations to stop the North Korea's invasion
  • The vote from the UN passed.
  • June 27: President Truman ordered troops stationed in Japan to support the South Korea

HUAC

  • House Un-American Activities Committee
  • Investigated possible Communist influence (inside and outside the US Government
  • They believed that Communists were sneaking propaganda into films

THE ROSENBERGS

  • Minor activists in the American Communist Party
  • They pleaded the 5th Amendment in trail
  • The couple was found guilty of espionage and sentenced to DEATH

McCARTHYISM

  • Joseph McCarthy made unsupported accusations
  • He attacked people who he suspected were Communist

BERLIN AIRLIFT

  • American and British officials started flying food and supplies into West Berlin
  • 277,000 flights brought in 2.3 million tons of supplies
  • West Berlin survived because of the airlift
  • Food, fuel, medicine and christmas presents that the crew bought with their own money were sent in

NATO

  • North Atlantic Treaty Organization
  • 12 members pledged military support to one another should one be attacked
