WHAT IS THE BIBLE?

The bible holds the many scriptures that are sacred to Christians and the Jewish.

Basic Belief of Christianity

• Christians believe in one god or are monotheistic.
• Salvation is a free gift from God
• God will create a new heaven and earth.
• God knows of all things
• God is the creator of everything that exists

THE BIBLE'S CREATION STORY: GENESIS

WHAT IS IT'S PURPOSE?

The Creation Story, Genesis, was written to reveal moral and spiritual revelation to mankind and provide them an understanding of God's powers and how he created the everything.

LITERARY STRUCTURE

In the Bible, the writer used a simple, narrative form for the scripture. It tells a story about God creating the world bits by bits.

What the Bible has in common with Rig Veda's Creation Story

SIMILARITIES

• Both Rig Veda and the Bible are ideas of how their God/Gods created their universe.
• They both stated that before the Gods, there was absolutely nothing that was filled with life.

SIMILARITIES

• Also, both mention water, showing its significance in the story.

• Brahman is the one true God that is formless.
• The Vedas(Rig, Yaju, Atharva, Sama) are sacred.
• One must achieve Dharma or right conduct.
• Reincarnation
• Believe in Moksha; the liberation of the cycle of death.

WHAT IS RIG VEDA'S PURPOSE?

Its purpose is to allow the reader to consider what may have existed before the world was created by their God.

LITERARY DEVICES

This hymn constantly used RHETORICAL DEVICES to engage the reader in the importance of the passage. It is filled with metaphors and difficult text that may confuse the reader.

All religions share common similarities but they also all contain unique features within themselves that make them special.
